SOUND MESSAGES TO OUTER SPACE

"Sound Messages to Outer Space" è una serie di 3 poster (+1) che abbiamo pubblicato a dicembre, nell'occasione della prima edizione di Filler. Trattasi di una serie di illustrazioni rappresentati la vita nel cosmo di alcuni astronauti, alle prese con un furioso dj-set punk-hardcore.
Nel 1977 la NASA lancio le due sonde per il programma Voyager e all'interno di ognuna di essere inserì il "Golden Record", ovvero un disco per grammofono contenente informazioni sulla civiltà umana, la posizione del pianeta Terra e del sistema solare, saluti di pace in svariate lingue (anche antiche) e dei suoni e tracce audio dovrebbero rappresentarci nello spazio infinito. Infatti sulle sonde Voyager, dal '77, è in heavy rotation una playlist contenente "Cavatina dal Quartetto N.13 Op.130 in Si bemolle" di Beethoven, un canto notturno degli indiani Navajo, "El Cascabel" suonato dai mariachi messicani, "Melancholy Blues" di Louis Armstrong e addirittura "Johnny B. Goode" di Chuck Berry! Beh, indubbiamente, sono opere musicali e culturali significative, ma la civiltà umana mica è solo questo, giusto? Io la classica non l'ho mai tollerata e non mi sono mai ascoltato un canto Navajo se non accidentalmente in qualche film western. Quindi, se potessi lanciare un messaggio sonoro nello spazio, sceglierei i classici del rock e del punk: AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin e ovviamente Misftits, Minor Threat e Black Flag. Se in un futuro, ogni persona potesse salire in orbita per lanciare il proprio messaggio, la propria playlist nello spazio, le scene sarebbero un pò come quelle rappresentate in queste illustrazioni.

"Sound Messages to Outer Space" è serigrafata a mano in una tiratura limitata di 40 copie, confezionata all'interno di una busta "termica" insieme ad una toppa ufficiale ricamata, adesivi, spille e foto della missione. E' disponibile on line su Striped Music!

"Sound Messages to Outer Space" is a series of 3 posters (+1) that we published in December, for the first edition of Filler. This is a series of illustrations representing the life in the universe of some astronauts, struggling with a furious punk-hardcore DJ set. In 1977, NASA launched two Voyager probes and was included the "Golden Record" inside each of them. The "Golden Record" is a phonograph record containing information about the human civilization, the position of the Earth in the solar system, several greetings of peace in various languages (even in ancient languages), sounds and audio tracks that should represent us in infinite space. In fact, the Voyager probes, from '77, there is a heavy rotation with "Cavatina from String Quartet Op.130 # 13 in B flat" by Beethoven, a Navajo night song, "El Cascabel" played by Mexican mariachi, "Melancholy Blues" by Louis Armstrong and even "Johnny B. Goode "by Chuck Berry! Well, certainly, these have important cultural and musical, but human civilization is not only this, right? I have never tolerated classical music and I never heard a Navajo song, if not accidentally in some western movie. So, if I could give a sound message in space, I would choose the classic rock and punk: AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and obviously Misftits, Minor Threat and Black Flag. If in the future, each person could fly into orbit to launch its own message, its playlist in space, the scene would be somewhat like those represented in these illustrations. 

"Sound Messages to Outer Space" is hand screen-printed in a limited edition of 40 copies, packaged inside a "thermal" envelope with an official embroidered patch, stickers, pins and photos of the mission. It's available online at Striped Music!

ZOMBIE SKATER - Thunderbeard x LoveBoardShop

Gli zombi vanno sempre. Vanno da una vita ormai. Sono 40 anni che vediamo zombi e li vediamo in tutte le salse. Ora addirittura abbondano le serie tv sugli zombie senza contare la continua produzione di film sui morti viventi. A me piacciono gli zombie, moltissimo e quindi ecco la collaborazione con LoveBoardShop (skateshop di Codroipo): un connubio tra horror e sport, zombie+skate/snowboard.
Qualcuno dice che questa maglia abbia vinto parecchio. Me fa piasè.

The zombies are on the run. For 40 years we see zombies and we see them in all ways.
Now there are several zombie's TV series, not counting the continuous production of films about living dead. I like the zombies, a lot, so here's collaboration with LoveBoardShop (skateshop in Codroipo): a blend of horror and sports, zombies + skate/snowboard.
Someone says that this shirt has won a lot. I'm pleased about it.

Frankino di ChopWorks tempo fa mi ha commissionato un design per una nuova maglia.
Detto, fatto! Ecco uno dei fratelli Slag di Wackey Races che invece di pilotare la sua auto/monolite sfreccia in sella a questo frisco!!
Bel disegnetto, anche se le moto di Frankino sono molto meglio!

Said than done ! That's one of the Slag brothers from Wackey Races Cartoon Serie, who rides this frisco-bike instead of driving his monolithic-car !!
Good work for me, but Frankino's choppers are better!

DRUNK SEALIONS - Thunderbeard x Frisco Shop

Questa è una collaborazione con il noto sketeshop di Brescia Frisco Shop.
Abbiamo scelto di disegnare i leoni marini che popolano il Pier39 per dare un chiaro riferimento a San Francisco (Frisco). Si vede anche l'isola di Alcatraz sul fondo mentre ste bestie si sbronzano!

Finito il lavoro, abbiamo stampato poster e magliette Dickies oltre ad aver realizzato un simpatico promo video! Ora stappatevi una birra e godetevi il lavoro!

This is a collaboration with the famous sketeshop Frisco Shop sited in Brescia (Italy).
We chose to draw the sea lions that populate the Pier39 to give a clear reference to San Francisco (Frisco). You also see Alcatraz on the bottom while the beasts get drunk!

We finished the job, we printed posters and Dickies tees; We also made a nice promo video! 
Now open a beer and enjoy the whole work!

HESSA / EGERIA - Vinyl split artwork

Mesi fa sono stato contattato da Rino Valente del Peek-a-Boo Tattoo Parlour.
Non sono dentro al giro tattoo italiano ma di lui ne avevo sentito parlare più volte, anche perché Ale ha serigrafato le magliette del tattoo shop circa un annetto fa.
Rino aveva bisogno delle grafiche un 12" split per il suo gruppo, gli HESSA e una band sludge di amici, gli EGERIA.Dopo qualche messaggio veloce abbiamo fatto un brefing notturno su skype e ci siamo subito trovati bene.
Appassionato di Black Flag e di alcune hardcore band degli anni '80, prende decisamente le distanze da ciò che è strettamente legato al punk "con la cresta".
Che poi il briefing sia stata più una chiaccherata tra "vecchi" amici che una conversazione professionale è un dato di fatto. Rino mi ha dato carta bianca e completa libertà creativa.

Era un periodo che su Discovery Channel continuavano a rompere i coglioni con gli spot di quei prestigiatori/illusionisti che ti tirano scemo con uno spillo tra le dita, ma nonostante questo chi ha fa della magia la sua professione l'ho sempre stimato. Un pò come tutti, quando avevo 10 anni, andavo in estasi a vedere David Copperfield far sparire la Statua della Libertà o volare su una platea a teatro.
Allora, documentandomi, ho trovato dei riferimenti d'epoca relativi a Harry Houdini (posters, locandine, fotografie e documenti), il più grande escapologo di tutti i tempi.
Un'uomo "estremo" in un epoca in cui l'unico sballo era andare al bordello o ubriacarsi con del whiskey di contrabbando o ubriacarsi al bordello.
Tanti ci provavano a fare "Houdini" ma pochi ci riuscivano. Alcuni si improvvisavano escapologi in Europa o in Asia ma l'unico capace di sopravvivere (con stile) in situazioni tra vita e morte era lui.
Nonostante Houdini sia morto di peritonite a 52 anni ho pensato che forse per lui sarebbe stato un onore morire durante un suo numero, sicuramente l'avrebbe trovato più romantico (anche se pare che la rottura dell'appendice che ha causato l'infezione sia dovuta ad una serie di cartoni rimediati da un giovane boxeur durante un test ai propri addominali).
"La vasca" era uno dei suoi cavalli di battaglia e ho pensato di rappresentarla nell situazione di mezzo tra il mondo reale e l'aldilà, per capirlo basta ribaltare la copertina.

Some months ago Rino Valente from Peek-a-Boo Tattoo Parlour contacted me.
I'm not really inside the italian tattoo scene, but I've heard several times about him, Ale screenprinted some tees for Peek-A-Boo as well.
He needed graphics for a new vinyl 12" split for his band, HESSA, and a band of friends called EGERIA. After a quick message we did a overnight briefing via skype, and immediately there was a good feeling. He loves Black Flag and some hardcore bands of the '80s, he definitely takes the distances from what is closely related to punk "with the crest."
Despite the briefing was more a chat between "old" friends than a professional conversation, is a fact. Rino gave me carte blanche and complete freedom on the artwork.

It was a time where on the Discovery Channel, continued to break my balls with commercial of magicians / illusionists who make you go mad with a pin between their fingers, but despite this, I have always respected the professional magicians. 
When I was 10, like many of you, I was delighted to see David Copperfield vanishing the Statue of Liberty or flying on a crowd into the theater. 
Then, I did research and I found vintage references related to Harry Houdini (posters, flyers, photographs and documents), the greatest escapologist of all time.
A extreme man in an era when the only buzz was going to the whorehouse or get drunk with contrabanding whiskey or getting drunk at the whorehouse.
Many tried to do "Houdini" but few were successful. Some of them improvised escapology in Europe or Asia, but the only one able to survive (with style) in borderline situations, between life and death, was him. Although Houdini died of peritonitis at 52, I thought it would be an honor for him die during a performance, it is certainly more romantic (anyway it seems that the breaking of the appendix that caused the infection was due to a series of punches by a young boxer during a test to Houdini's abs). "The tank" was one of his best performances and I thought to represent between the real world and the hereafter, to understand it, simply flip the cover.
